Endangered Habitats of Illinois

May 18 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Age: 8+
Date: Sat 5/18
Times: 8:00 am-12:00 pm or 1:00-4:00 pm
Location: Nachusa Grasslands
Fee: $6/$8 NR
Deadline: 5/11

A high quality habitat is critical for wildlife conservation. Many habitats once common in Illinois are now rare, including the wildlife that call it home. The Nachusa Grasslands preserves and maintains 4,000 acres of habitat, including 700 plant species, 180 bird species, 30 reptile and amphibian species, and a herd of bison. We will meet at Nash Recreation Center and take a
Park District Van to the grasslands, where we will explore oak savanna and prairie areas on foot with Nature Conservancy staff. Learn about how these restored habitats are established and maintained with a chance to see wildlife. There will be a short ride through a portion of the bison enclosure for a chance to view the herd. The morning session will include a longer and more strenuous hike.
